This place is a hidden gem in the Happy Hour landscape that is Baton Rouge. AND they have a cute little patio! I had a 225 Best Eats coupon to use, so we decided to come a little earlier than normal to try Happy Hour and I'm glad we did! ALL of their appetizers are 1/2 off and then they have very good Greek wine for $6 a glass. After discussions with our very attentive waitress, we decided to try the Hummus, the Saganaki, and the Grilled Haloomi Cheese to start and were impressed by all! The Hummus was nice and tangy and had a good texture, not too creamy but not too thin either. Very good. The Saganaki is fried, but the breading is so light, it doesn't feel heavy at all. It's got nice tang from the cheese and the lemon that they sprinkle on top to flambé, delicious and different. Lastly the Grilled Haloomi is much like the traditional fried cheese you would find at other Greek restaurants, but they use a little bit different seasoning and load up the olive oil underneath the cheese with garlic...and then give you pita points to dip! It's a beautiful thing. As if that wasn't enough, we did get an entree to split - the Pasticchio, that was good, but not nearly as impressive as the apps. It had all the components of traditional Pasticchio but the cream sauce portion lacked the punch of flavor that I was expecting. Then, because we could, we went big and split a dessert and MAMMA MIA was it awesome! We got the custard with the shredded phillo underneath and the pistachios with a light honey sauce on top - it was refreshing, finger-licking, make you want to scream OPA! good. Overall, we had a fantastic experience at Zorba's, but next time we'll probably just do the happy hour with apps and dessert instead of shelling out the extra for an entree. The apps and dessert provided PLENTY of food at a very reasonable price tag.

Yes, you will find all of your Greek staples here, but the freshness of every ingredient goes a long way to set Zorba's apart. I just can't speak highly enough about the quality and consistency of the food. The atmosphere feels authentic yet understated. Nothing cliche or gimmicky... Just clean modern decor in an intimate dining room. There is a small bar which is downright charming with exposed brick and moody lighting. Oh and did I mention how clean Zorba's is? I dare you to find one speck of dust or crumb on the floor. It's immaculate. The service is equally impressive with servers being very knowledgeable (which can be hit or miss in Baton Rouge!), attentive, and friendly. I don't think I've ever visited when the owner wasn't present. It's very clear that he takes a lot of pride in his business and it makes all the difference.

I worked for an authentic Greek restaurant for two years while in college 20 years ago. Since I have traveled extensively and tried hundreds of si called Greek restaurants. This is the first one in 20 years that was anywhere near as good or authentic as where I worked. Fantastic food and I highly recommend it.

Real deal! Not the mass produced gyros that is the same at every other place in town. Actually tastes fresher. The Greek tea is like the Lebanese tea elsewhere, only more flavorful. Zorba's is a welcome variation on a theme that pretty much is identical across the other restaurants of the same/similar genre. Go here! I definitely will again.

Been here several times now for lunch and never had anything but a very positive experience. It's somewhat tucked away on Essen in the shopping center close to Ichiban so might easily be missed, but I'm glad I found it. The food is truly authentic Greek as the owners are themselves, very cozy and somewhat elegant dining even during lunch time, and always great service. The last time I went, I ordered the combination lunch plate with a Greek tea and it was ah-mazing! Truly making me hungry and crave it right now just thinking about it and looking at the pics! Ive always been an Albasha girl, but this place has a unique charisma that makes it #1 for me. Only problem is that I wish I lived closer!

Had lunch there today - third time I've been there and very good every time. Today was ESPECIALLY good - tried the El Greco which featured a grilled chicken, lightly covered in a mixture of olive, tomato, herbs, etc. The chicken was perfectly done - nicely browned - well cooked but without being dry - very moist. Came with rice, also very well done, with a slight seasoning of its own, a Greek salad, and some grilled vegetables - and some pita wedges for sopping up the oils and juices at the end. All for $10. Terrific meal and I will definitely be having that again.

This! Here! All of the things!!! What a surprise! Had dinner here last night at a friend's suggestion. I'd never been before and there are very few places in this city that I have not been. It's in a strip mall- I guess I've seen the sign before but it never registered. We got a table on the patio because it was a cool evening- the service was impeccable- the owner visited our table and the food was out of this world. Here's the shake... The GOOD! gyros appetizer bc my friend only knows greek and Lebanese food as this. So we got some to make him comfortable. It was flavorful, came with taziki sauce and pita bread. What you'd expect. What you would not expect was the Lamb Souvlaki and the Psorapita- Lamb cooked medium well bc I cant do pink and I don't want it burned. It was lovely. The pita has a crab and shrimp stuffing in a filo dough, with a cream sauce and grilled shrimp on top of it. The REALLY REAL GREATNESS! Chocolate gnache cake with a lovely Argentinian malbec. Bottom line: :P... nuff said.

We had a reservation on 9/17 and this was actually the worse resturant experience I have ever had at any resturant any where. It was like a Resturant Impossible segment. From the food, to the waitstaff to the bar- terrible! Just a few issues to name a few- Cold food, salads that did not come, drinks were not brought to the table, in attentive server and being sat 30 minutes after the reservation.

Let me first say that I really like the look and feel of this place from inside to outside (it's small but efficient). The service and food was awesome. This restaurant gives off a slightly romantic vibe inside with a chill vibe outside. It's clean, slightly dark and slightly upscale. Nevertheless, the food and presentation was really good. There's nothing here that will wow you in terms of the food because most Greek eaters offer essentially the same thing with a mini twist. The downside is trying to get into the parking lot. You will see what I'm taking about especially if you go there during lunch hours. I like this restaurant but I believe this place will shine more in the Spring Season

Lovely night, my husband is a huge fan! So much he is already planning our return. Friendly, caring staff. Can't wait to take friends and family.

I've ate Greek food in Greece and in Baton Rouge at almost every place imaginable. Until tonight, I could never find food anywhere close to the food I ate in Athens. To be honest, if you are looking to eat a chicken schwarma plate, then this probably isn't the place for you. But if you want some good Greek food, then this is the spot. Order the prasopita in an avgolemono sauce, the lamb souvlaki, and/or the Greek Bistro Appetizer for two and thank me later.

It's always nice to have a new Greek restaurant in town. I gave it a taste a couple months ago. First off, I disagree with the previous review about a great location. Essen lane is one of the worst streets in Baton Rouge, and this restaurant is located smack dab in the middle of the street with the never ending traffic. The restaurant itself was nice. Nothing too memorable. I got the Greek salad with the chicken shwarma. It was alright. Albeit, not the best I've ever had. The service was good. I'll go back to try something else and give them another shot.

I'm a business traveler and love finding unique, local flavors. I joined a friend from Baton Rouge that suggested we eat at Zorba's. A Greek Bistro in Baton Rouge is a little unexpected so Zorba's surprised me with its authentic and fresh menu choices. I decided to do the special of the night which offered choices of appetizer, main dish and dessert for $25. I had the Greek Salad, Zorba's Platter (included Beef Souvlaki, Paputsakia, Gyro meat and grilled mixed veggies), then Kataifi for dessert. Talk about a tour of Greece for your taste buds!! Everything was cooked to perfection, fresh and alive with authentic flavors and aromas of the Greek countryside. The Kataifi dessert was simply euphoric! Our waitress provided fantastic service and her personality was delightful and engaging. I will return on my next trip to Baton Rouge. This place is a must visit!!

I hate to leave a bad review on my second experience after my first experience was so great. But, I ordered the same exact thing this time as I did the last time. My sandwich was good, but clearly a different chef prepared it today. My fries were delicious. My lettuce for the salad, on the other hand, was old and wilted. I'm not happy about that at all. Fresh lettuce and spinach in a salad is essential. I couldn't even finish my food because I was so turned off by it.

I came to Zorba's on my lunch break the other day, and I guess my expectations were too high. Between the reviews on Yelp and a couple friends talking about it, I walked in expecting a lot more. The restaurant was small and a little cramped. I sat at the bar and the bartender, while very nice, was doing sidework right in front of me (marrying ketchup bottles). Personally, I think that kind of work should be done pre or post shift, not during the lunch/dinner rush. The owner or manager was behind the bar as well and helping the wait staff move their tables along. He probably should have been doing table touches to gauge his customer, rather than bringing out plates and handing them off to their respective waitron. I ordered the gyro platter which consisted of gyro meat, salad, rice pilaf and pita triangles. The pita was toasted on the grill which imparted a smokey flavor, but that didn't mask the fact that the bread seamed a little stale. The salad was decent but the dressing was flavorless. As was the pilaf. No flavor, it tasted like white rice. Most upsetting was the gyro meat. I'm a huge fan of this stuff (even though I've been told it's the hot dog of the Aegean). The meat here was not juicy, the edges were almost crispy but more tough, like rubber. The flavor was minimal. It's a bit gauche for me to say this, but usually when I eat gyro, I end up burping the flavor later in the day. Not the case on this day because there was no spice or tremendous flavor to be reminded of. All in all, I was very unhappy with my lunch. They were busy, and obviously have a following, but I'll go to Albasha on Bluebonnet over Zorba's any day.

"The most authentic Gyro Meat I have ever had". Who knew I would find the most authentic-tasting gyro meat right here in Baton Rouge? I have read the mixed reviews for this place, but decided to try it out for myself! Me and my family were the first customers of the evening, since we arrived as soon as they opened for dinner. We were warmly greeted by the staff and were able to pick where to sit. This was a small restaurant, which makes it more of an intimate setting for dining. First impression... warm pita with hummus... the pita was piping hot that it was initially untouchable and the hummus was so creamy! For those that know me, I am a health nut, so I ordered the gyro salad... boy was I impressed! The flavors were unbelievable - the Greek herbs used were so fresh and robust, plus there was even a hint of crispiness in the meat, which made it even more superb! When meat is too crispy, it dries it up, but this gyro meat was just slightly crispy on the edges... my mouth waters thinking about it. I highly recommend this restaurant, if you are looking for authentic Greek cuisine.

It never really dawned on me that the gyros I have eaten are not genuine Greek, but Lebanese. It's like the difference between Chinese and Vietnamese. Of course there are many similarities, but the seasoning and cooking style varies enough to differentiate. The price range for entrees are $14-$20, not bad. First, we entered into a bustling lil area at the beginning of dinner rush. The staff was very welcoming and informed. We started with the fried calamari...good seasoning but overfried. It would have been less rubbery if the cooking time was s few minutes less. Along with the calamari, lemon slices and garlic cloves were fried. My husband had the gyro plate, (be aware there is no additional salad to put on your gyro as customarily given at Lebanese locations like Alabasha/cafe Phoenicia. The grilled pita are cut into strips, which gives it a nice signature. I ordered the mousaka, which is similar to a casserole: hamburger, potatoe slices, cream and cheese on top. Not bad since I never have had it before. For dessert, we had the kataifi, a nice light custard with a shredded coconut crust -lightly drizzled with honey...reminded me of a girl scout cookie (Carmel delites/ samosa). The Greek ice tea was aromatic- light and not overwhelming with only two pine seeds! We enjoyed the ambiance, the area is a bit small- filled with food and chatty diners, but that's okay because that's the experience of it all. I did not give a five star because I have yet to return to try more menu items.

Hands down the best lunch in town. The gyro, chicken, and steak are all lights out. The sauces are amazing, flavorful, and the pita bread is always fresh and hot. Great service, run by a a group of people that are committed to the quality of their food they serve.

The finest service. The owner really cares about your dining experience. I haven't had a bad meal yet. I never give 5 stars, but this is a strong 4.5. The gyro harkened back to "The Athenian Grill" that was in the Commonpoint shopping center on Sherwood Forest Blvd back in 1986. This is no coincidence, since it's the same family. The old Zorba's was a fantastic dining experience back when it was on Perkins, which is now Louisiana Lagniappe. This is the same stuff, and doesn't taste like everything else greek/Lebanese in town. Literally, everyone else has the same Pita bread and Gyro meat, like it all came from a Sisco catalog. This place is different. If you've tried gyros and didn't like them from another establishment , try these before writing them off. Fresh pita bread, best Gyro, great salad and grape leaves. There are better Chicken Schwarma in town, though. I do miss the fresh butter with Pita bread like the old Zorba's, but their hommus suits me fine. I've tried their sampler platter, and have deduced their filet may be the best in town. The Filet entree (medium rare) will be my next conquest. A great intimate date night place, that also caters to a sizable lunch crowd as well.

I remember eating at Zorba's when I was a kid when it was at its original location of what is now Louisiana Lagniappe. Apparently the family moved back to Greece for about ten to fifteen years, but they decided to return to Baton Rouge and grace us with their Greek food presence. I came here right around the lunch rush and found they were definitely inadequately prepared for the amount of people that were here. This place is small and it seems they have already outgrown their location. I guess people remembered how good they used to be so they didn't have to do much to generate business. Once we were seated, we were treated to nice and friendly albeit extremely slow service. I ordered an order of Meat Dolmades(meat grape leaves) which were excellent and a gyro sandwich. I also had a chance to try the chicken souvlaki. After my experience I would have to rank Zorba's right below Albasha's. It's definitely the second best Greek in BR. That being said there are some things they win on, such as their pita bread, it's delicious. With the level of business they are seeing, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them in a new location soon. I hope so, because as good as the food is, it's a bit too packed and it causes the service to suffer.

Finally, Baton Rouge gets a Greek restaurant without all the same-old-same-old! We got the flaming cheese appetizer, which was awesome, and the calamari, which was very tender compared to the gumminess at most places. Very well seasoned. I got the Psorapita (sp?), the seafood stuffed filo-dough dish with shrimp on top. I loved it and saved half for lunch the next day. My wife got the Gyro plate and was pleased. The gyro was not as oily as most places, but the portions were smaller. Zorba's is kinda stingy with the pita bread, but what little they brought was very soft and nicely grilled. Our friends split the rack of lamb, and they both loved it. Looked very good from where I was sitting! We got all four desserts. The baklava was awesome, and very sweet. Sweeter than most places. The chocolate mousse pie was good and smooth. Another desert, one that had pistachios on the top, was kinda bland for my taste but my date loved it. Very unique food for Baton Rouge. Will definitely go back!

Let me start out by saying that the service and front of house hospitality are super nice and very genuine from Dino and the rest of the crew. Now let me discuss the food from my well traveled perspective. The base of the dishes, in terms of technique, were correct but nothing, absolutely nothing more. This was frustrating beyond words. We started with the stuffed grape leaves with a cherry tomato and olive dressing and the puree of pepper dip. Both, excellently presented but needed a kick to make their flavors shine and sparkle. For the entree I ordered the Psaropita and it too needed that extra dimension to make it shine. The sauce served over the phylo, essentially a well executed beurre blanc could be so much more expressive of Greek cuisine. This version was dull. Don't misunderstand. It was perfectly edible and mildly delicious but could be so much more...again very frustrating. My opinion stays that the kitchen needs to revisit their homeland and bring back and into the cuisine those great olives, capers, sundried tomatoes and herbs for kicking up the flavor to a level worth revisiting. For example throw some capers and sundried tomatoes into that sauce and stuffing of the phylo and breath some life from the old country into this creative dish.

This is the second time in a six week period that I have gotten upset with their service. Both times the server took our orders and wrote nothing done. Both times there was huge problems with our orders. More than two customers and you need to take notes.

This restaurant does not mess around. The lamb was so good I had to take a moment to appreciate all the decisions I've made in my life to bring me to that table. It's gorgeous, the owners and staff are incredibly sweet and welcoming and all they want to do is feed you.

Simply the best Greek food in town. The ONLY authentic Greek. The owners are always kind and welcoming as well as the rest of the staff. The only downside is the small size of the restaurant which means a long wait even on normally slow nights. Well worth it, though.

Zorba's is a step above other Greek restaurants in our area. This is authentic Greek food, made from old family recipes and cooked to order. The pita chips that are served with your meal and are lightly toasted with a soft and tasty center. We had the Mousaka and also Pasticho as our entrees. Each came with a fresh salad. They are both uniquely delicious. We also sampled the chicken shawerma and gyro. Both fantastic. The atmosphere is homey with an extremely friendly staff. I understand that at certain times it may be smart to make reservations. I can't wait to return so that we can try some of their other dishes.

If you love authentic Greek food, you will love Zorba's. This charming restaurant will make you feel as if you are in Greece! The staff is attentive and knowledgeable and the generous portions of perfectly prepared food provides high value. My dinner was Shawarma (roasted, shredded chicken) with orzo and humus. The gigantic portion was cooked to perfection and I finished every last bite! The restaurant is just off of I-10 making it very accessible, even if you are just driving through Baton Rouge. I highly recommend Zorba's and can't wait to go again.
